Available in late July 2008 retailing at usd$2,999.95 the Nikon D700 is currently priced at usd$2898.95 after a usd$100 price reduction. The sudden price reduction may due to the upcoming full frame digital cameras from Sony and Canon.
Nikon is also expected to reveal their replacement for a number of lenses, mainly targeting the FX market. As of now, Nikon has introduced AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED and AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED on 23 August 2007 together with Nikon D3 in order to replace the AF-S NIKKOR 12-24mm f/4 ED and AF-S NIKKOR 28-70mm f/2.8 ED.
New NIKKOR lenses expected are:
- AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
- AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G
- AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII
- AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4-5.6 VRII
The release of AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G, AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G and AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4-5.6 VRII enable D40, D40x and D60 users to autofocus while using them.
The AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED was first introduced in 12 December 2002, an alternative to Nikon AF-D 80-200mm f/2.8. Many Nikon users are awaiting a newer model built with the second generation of Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) technology. Amazon is reported to have run out of stock of this lens for a while.

As long as it is not officially announced, the above mentioned lenses are still rumors. Photokina is only few days from now, stay close to Nikon’s announcement. If you are considering to invest in any of the above lenses, wait for a little while.
