Sony SAL70300G Lens Review and Sample Photos

Photo Imaging Exo 2008: Sony showcased there latest flashgrip, the codenamed Sony Alpha DSLR-A900. No, thery have yet to release the camera, they plan to officially release the camera during August or September during IFA or Photokina, according to Sony’s spokeperson. We notice that there is a new external flash and battery grip.
Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 with the Battery Grip
First announced during PMA08: Vario Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA for Sony Alpha announced, The SAL2470Z is a Full Frame lens, believed developed for for the usage of Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 Full Frame camera. There is no in build IS or VR as Sony Alpha series body are all equipped with Super Steady Shot (SSS) a term used by Sony to describe its in body image stabilizer.Testing on a APS-C platofrm, the SAL2470Z measures 36mm to 105mm in 35mm format.
The new SAL-2470Z Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar® f2.8 24-70mm Zoom Lens is a brilliant all-around performer—with SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) design for fast, silent auto-focus, pro-quality Carl Zeiss® T* coated optics to reduce lens flare, and 17-element design with two aspherical and two ED glass lens elements to minimize distortion and virtually eliminate chromatic aberration. Here we see how this lens performs when coupled with Sony latest DSLR the Alpha A350. Sample images taken are from ISO 100 to ISO 3200 with 100% cropped.
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar F2.8 24-70mm
Sony has published their latest DSLR-A350’s sample photos at Sony Japan’s webite. These photos are taken with DT 16-80mm F3.5-4.5 ZA, 50mm F2.8 Macro and 50mm F1.4. There were no sample taken using DT 18-70mm kit lens, therefore its still a question on if its worth it to purchasse the camera together with the kit lens. Below are the three sample photos published together with its 100% cropped version. The full resolution photos are available for downloads too.
After looking at the above sample, I am impressed with the details that the DSLR-A350 can achieve. Photos are at their sharpest point and color are very good. Here we can only say that pairing with good lens, the new Sony Alpha 350 does perform very well. I am looking forward to testing this camera and if it feels comfortable and images comes out superb in prints, I shall acquire the body only package and pair with some Carl Zeiss lens for indoor and landscape usage.
