Sony announced “Exmor R\u201d CMOS Sensor today. According to Sony, it is twice as sensitive as conventional CMOS sensors thanks to back-illuminated technology that places metal wiring beneath the photo diode instead of above it. This allows smoother movement in action sequences and higher image quality in dark conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cExmor R\u201d Sensor Optimizes Low-Light Performance<\/h4>\n

Conventional image sensor architecture has required wires and other circuit elements to be positioned above the light sensitive photo-diodes, limiting the imager\u2019s light gathering capability. Positioning these elements behind the photo-diodes, Sony\u2019s \u201cExmor R\u201d image sensors can gather more light, resulting in approximately twice the sensitivity compared to conventional sensors.<\/p>\n

When Sony announced development of Full-Frame 24.81-Megapixel CMOS Sensor in 2008 during PMA, Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 Full Frame was later unveiled.<\/p>\n
