This is currently one of the most affordable Super-Telephoto lens by Nikon. If this lens was announced 8 years ago, I will not pay any attention at all because at then DSLRs’ ISO1600 was mostly a marketing strategy and was only good for Black and White prints. These days, for amateur photographers, f5.6 coupled with any midrange DSLRs’ ISO3200 or even ISO6400, one will be able to get a decent shutter speed for wildlife or sports photography.<\/p>\n

At only 2.3kg including the tripod collar, this may be something which I will consider putting it into my bag for my next jungle safari. With Vibration Reduction (VR) feature which Nikon claims to be able to counteract up to 4.5 stops and a 9-blade rounded aperture, Tamron and Sigma’s 150-600mm f5.5-6.3 have just met their competitor.<\/p>\n

As I have yet to try this lens, the only thing I wonder is if this lens is weatherproof just like most of Nikon’s telephoto lenses. It will really be a deal if it is.<\/p>\n

The Nikon 200-500mm is set to be priced at $1399.95 and will be available in mid-September. At this price and with VR, ED glasses and SWD, this should be an early Christmas deal!<\/p>\n
