PMA 2008 Report<\/p>\n<\/div>\n


\nCanon PMA 2008 Report<\/b>
\nBeing the largest booth at PMA 2008, Canon released Canon Rebel Xsi aka 450D dSLR. The new 12 Megapixel camera shows that the megapixel war is still not over yet. Canon XSI is the first entry level dslr with live view and 3\u201d LCD display.<\/p>\n

Apart from 450D, EF200mm f\/2L IS USM and EF800mm f\/5.6L IS USM lenses were the highlight at the booth too.<\/p>\n


\nFujifilm PMA 2008 Report<\/b>
\nSimilar to Olympus, there is no new announcement of new dSLR, but they showed a new prototype medium format film camera under glass on the booth.<\/p>\n

Nikon PMA 2008 Report<\/p>\n

Nikon introduced their entry level replacement, the Nikon D60. A much anticipated D80 replacement was not seen, much to a disappointment for a number of Nikon supporters. Still there is no replacement for Nikon\u2019s high end flash the SB-800.<\/p>\n

Nikon introduced Nikon AF-S DX 16-85 mm F3.5-5.6G ED VR, Nikon AF-S Micro 60 mm F2.8G ED and Nikon PC-E 24 mm F3.5D ED. Stay tune at masterchong.com for sample photos when its available.

\nOlympus PMA 2008 Report<\/b><\/p>\n

There is no announcement for new dSLR over at Olympus booth at PMA this year, a number of Olympus E3 were shown, including a half-cut mockup of E3 and 12-60 SWD lens.<\/p>\n

Olympus announced xD Type M+ flash card with the maximum capacity of 2Gb and offers transfer speed of up 4MB\/s. Not much more details were revealed at the time being.

\nSamsung PMA 2008 Report
\n<\/b>
\nPMA 2008 witnesses the launch of Samsung GX-20, the company\u2019s dslr using the in house 14.6 Megapixel CMOS sensor. Apart from that, nothing much is heard about their dslr lineup.<\/p>\n

\nSony PMA 2008 Report<\/b><\/p>\n

Nothing is more stunning then Sony\u2019s 24 Megapixel Full Frame sensor announcement. The Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 (A900) shall be the first full frame camera with anti shake technology implemented into their camera body. Sony calls it Super Steady Shot (SSS).<\/p>\n

Sony DSLR-A300 and DSLR- A350 was announced, both with similar specification with only megapixel difference. The DSLR-A300 has 10 Megapixel while the DSLR-A350 has 14 Megapixel. Maybe we can expect a DSLR-A700 body with a 16 Megapixel sensor.<\/p>\n

The highlight of Pentax was obviously its K20D and K200D dslr. Together with the showcase were the new Pentax lineup namely Pentax 18 – 55 mm F3.5-5.6 AL II, Pentax 55 – 300 mm F4-5.8 ED, Pentax 35 mm F2.8 Macro Limited, Pentax 200 mm F2.8 ED SDM, Pentax 300 mm F4 ED SDM.<\/p>\n


\nMy thoughts<\/b>
\nPMA 2008 seems to be a showcase for entry level dSLR, of maybe 2008 shall be the year of entry level dSLR. A number of such dSLRs have been announced with Sony leading the pack: Sony Alpha DSLR-A200, Sony Alpha DSLR-A300, Sony Alpha DSLR-A350, Pentax K200D and Nikon D60. The megapixel war is once again heated up, behold for the emergence of 16 or 18 Megapixel mid range dSLR.<\/p>\n

Feature wise, live view has become a must have feature for every dSLR. A large LCD screen of 2.7\u201d and above is seen with some even boosting a large 3\u201d LCD size. ISO 1600 seems to be not a problem anymore for large print of 16×20 even at entry level camera \u2013 Sony Alpha DSLR-A200. ISO 3200 at acceptable quality, with such quality of photos, there is practically not much of a major issue of picking the dSLR of your choice.<\/p>\n

When buying a new dSLR, its handling, feel and built shall be the highest priority nowadays as one will be holding it for shoots in addition to lens expansion and price tags.<\/p>\n
